The service

Fruit Map is a collaborative map of fruit trees and edible plants in public spaces. The content of the map — locations, species identifications, photos and seasonal information — is contributed by the community of users.

No warranty on identification — eat at your own risk

All markers, species identifications and other plant information on Fruit Map are provided by users and are NOT verified by Fruit Map. Plant identification is inherently uncertain: edible species can be confused with toxic look-alikes, and fruit can be contaminated by pollution, pesticides or animals.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO PICK OR EAT ANYTHING FOUND THROUGH FRUIT MAP, YOU DO SO ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Fruit Map, its team, contributors and partners accept no responsibility or liability for any illness, allergic reaction, poisoning, injury, death or other harm — to you, to others, or to property — resulting from picking, handling or consuming any plant or fruit found through the service.

This disclaimer applies in every country where Fruit Map is used, to the maximum extent permitted by the laws of that country. Where local law does not allow certain liabilities to be excluded, they are limited to the minimum extent that law allows.

Always confirm the identity of a plant with a qualified expert before consuming it, wash any fruit thoroughly, and when in doubt, do not eat it.

Responsible harvesting and local laws

You are responsible for complying with all local laws and regulations when harvesting, including rules about protected areas, private property and municipal ordinances. Never enter private property without permission. Harvest moderately and leave fruit for others and for wildlife.

Your account

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your account credentials secure. You must be legally capable of accepting these terms in your jurisdiction.

Your content

You retain ownership of the content you contribute (markers, photos, descriptions). By contributing, you grant Fruit Map a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display and share that content as part of the collaborative map, including in anonymized form after account deletion.

Do not post content that is false, misleading, unlawful, or that you do not have the right to share.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service — including adding deliberately false markers, harvesting data in bulk without authorization, attempting to disrupt the service, or using it for any unlawful purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Fruit Map is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. To the same extent, Fruit Map’s total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, for free accounts, is zero).

Changes and termination

We may modify or discontinue the service, and may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.

Governing law and your local rights

Fruit Map is operated from Brazil, and these terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, with disputes resolved in the courts of Brasília, DF, Brazil — except where the mandatory laws of your country of residence require otherwise.

These terms do not take away rights that the consumer-protection or other mandatory laws of your country grant you and that cannot be waived by contract. Where any provision of these terms conflicts with such laws, that provision applies to the maximum extent permitted, and the rest of the terms remain in force.
